Mustangs add BJ Scheelar to Scouting staff

Born in Calgary, BJ began playing grassroots hockey at the young age of five. By seven, he naturally gravitated toward the goaltender position, drawn to the unique perspective it offered. His early understanding of the game set him apart and proved invaluable throughout his minor hockey journey. BJ played in both the NEAA and SWAA programs, progressing through midget and into Junior and Senior Men’s hockey.

As his playing career evolved, BJ found himself increasingly drawn to the teaching and strategic aspects of the sport. He began coaching grassroots goaltenders in their early development stages and gradually transitioned into assistant and head coaching roles. Over the years, he has led teams across U11 through U18 levels, emphasizing player development and team success.

BJ is particularly passionate about individual skill development and believes in building line combinations based on each player's unique strengths rather than fitting them into a predefined mold. His coaching philosophy is centered on effort and attitude, summed up in his personal motto: "You bring the heart and a good attitude, and I’ll find your best fit and help develop your skills so we can succeed together as a team."

BJ is excited to bring his experience and passion to the Stavely Mustangs and looks forward to helping identify and develop young talent this hockey season.
